How to Apply Concealer Under the Eyes Without a Cakey Finish
Under-eye concealer has a difficult job: it needs to brighten and even the look of the area without turning fine texture into the main event. When concealer looks heavy, the problem is often not that you need a different formula. It can be the amount you apply, where you place it, and how you blend it.
This simple method focuses on control rather than coverage for coverage’s sake.
1. Start with less concealer than you think
Instead of painting a large triangle beneath the eye, begin with a small amount where you actually want correction. For many people, that means the inner corner and the area where discoloration is most visible. You can always add another thin layer.
2. Give the product a moment to settle
After placement, let the concealer sit briefly before blending. This can make it easier to keep coverage where you need it instead of spreading the product across the entire under-eye area.
3. Tap—don’t scrub
Use light tapping motions to blend. Repeated sweeping can move concealer away from the area you intended to cover and may leave visible edges. Tapping gives you more control over both placement and pressure.
