Press, Sweep or Buff: A Quick Makeup Brush Motion Checklist

The same makeup brush can create different results depending on how you move it. Pressing places product, sweeping spreads it, and buffing blends it through repeated short motions.

Press when you want placement

Use a pressing motion when you want to build product in a controlled area. This is useful with setting powder or when you want to keep color concentrated.

Sweep when you want an even veil

Sweeping works well for broad, light application. The Aura Dome Powder Brush is shaped for sweeping setting or finishing powder across the face.

Buff when you want to merge edges

Buffing uses small circular or short back-and-forth movements to blend foundation or contour. The FLAWLESSCORE™ Foundation Brush has a dense synthetic head and rounded flat-top for liquid or cream foundation application.

Use the smallest movement that works

Start with light pressure, watch how the product moves, and change the motion before adding more product. The goal is control, not speed.
